Mar 12, 2017 Cast iron braze with aluminum bronze. Nice older couple needed an antique sewing machine base repaired. After standard google-fu and watching Jody's brazing video with AC tig, and texts to Dynasteve - I was ready. Experimented with balance (on scrap) at 10, 9 and 8 on the syncro 350 set to 200 amps. Balance set to 8 was good.
Mar 23, 2017 Cast iron tig braze - aluminum bronze. Nice older couple needed an antique sewing machine base repaired. After standard google searching and watching Jody's brazing video with AC tig, and texts to friend Steve - I was ready. Experimented with balance (on scrap) at 10, 9 and 8 on the syncro 350 set to 200 amps. Balance set to 8 was good.

• weld using stick with ni rod for cast iron (high nickel) or even 312 stainless stick will probably work and is much cheaper • or tig weld using 312 ss or silicon bronze filler or aluminum bronze filler (i like to use AC tig for aluminum bronze) dc will work for everything else.
It is also used for weld cladding applications on cast iron and carbon steel as well as dissimilar weld joints of Al-bronze steel. ERCuNiAl Ni-Al Bronze Welding Wire is also used for the welding and cladding applications of Cu-Al alloy, aluminum-coated steel in the equipment and the chemical sector as well as for carbon steel welding.
Cast iron is used for water pipes, machine tool castings, transmission housing, engine blocks, pistons, stove castings, etc. The metal can be brazed or bronze welded, gas and arc welded, hardened, or machined. In terms of limitations, the cast iron must be preheated prior
Aluminum Bronze A2 (GMAW/GTAW) Description: Aluminum Bronze Welding Alloy. This versatile filler metal is used for joining aluminum bronze base metals, welding brass, steel and a variety of dissimilar metal applications. Typical Application: Preheat generally not required.
If you are welding a piece that won't be exposed to high temperatures, aluminum-bronze rods work well for cast iron and are much cheaper than nickel. Mild steel

May 30, 2015 Cast iron welding I think saw that same video. A guy that keeps air-quoting "weld"? I've never heard that aluminum bronze is used for joining dissimilar metals, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. I highly doubt I would try to use it for stainless, mostly because I don't see it as necessary since I have plenty of stainless rod that seems to work ...

The castings include pure iron properties such as – ductility, capacity for resisting shock, toughness, and high strength. You can weld and braze malleable cast iron and all welded part will be hardened after welding. The Appearance Test. A malleable cast iron's surface is similar to that of gray cast iron.

Aluminum bronze is the most versatile welding electrode in this family of alloys. It is intended for deposition with electric arc welding processes. AMPCO-TRODE ® 10 will weld and join many ferrous and nonferrous metals and combinations of dissimilar metals. These metals include the more weldable grades of cast iron, high and low carbon steels ...
Nov 01, 2021 You can also use the arc welding processes such as stick, MIG, and TIG with the proper filler metal to braze weld cast iron. The most popular filler metals for the arc processes are silicon bronze (CuSi or SiB) and aluminum bronze (CuAl). CuAl has
ALUMINUM BRONZE A2 WELDING WIRE APPLICATION: Used to weld base metals of steels and cast iron to copper, brass, and bronze. Ideal for overlays on shafts, propellers, housings, couplings, bushings, valve seats, pumps, and other surfaces needing a bronze wearing surface.
Sep 24, 2021 However, it's used to weld cast iron and produces a machinable surface. Brazing bronze: You can oxy-acetylene braze or use the rods with a TIG welder. It's a good way to provide a strong hold in a crack or between two components needing joining, while not causing cracking and a change of the cast iron properties. ...
Oct 06, 2018 Re: Cast iron braze with aluminum bronze I need to try this process on some fugly CI I have from a woodstove part that broke (a dog that holds a panel in place inside, so it needs to be kosher). Tried "buttering" the break on both sides, and that worked surprisingly well.

Nov 20, 2017 I think you will be sad if you try to fusion weld it. To me, the idea is to melt as little of the cast iron as possible, none of it if you can. I have had great success with aluminum bronze, tig brazed using AC. The cleaning action of AC helps burn the schmoo out. One job I did was a repair on one of my vises a few years back and it's still ...
Apr 04, 2019 Silicon bronze actually has outstanding wear properties, too. My dad had some worn cast-iron gears that needed the teeth built up. I didn't have the time to do the preheat/postheat a weld would require, so I decided to braze it “cold” instead, getting the material just warm enough to

described above, have limited the weld ing of cast iron. Prior to the development of Ni-Fe-Mn, the major advancement in filler metals for cast iron welding was NI-ROD FC 55, a flux-cored continuous welding wire for use with flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW). While the FC 55 product produces weld

2400˚ F so there is 900˚ between the preheat and melting point of the cast iron. The welding is done with an acetylene torch and bare cast iron rod which is just a stick of clean cast iron as the filler metal. The welding process is done by melting the cast iron, puddling the base cast iron and adding filler iron into the puddle. This
Cast Iron Welding Wire Royal 44-30 is an excellent MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding) alloy for making repairs on all ductile and malleable irons. The Royal 44-30 is also useful for the welding of other high-strength nodular and gray cast irons where maximum strengh and ductility are required.
Aluminum-bronze TIG rods are used for welding aluminum-bronze alloys to themselves or to cast iron, carbon steel, copper, bronze, or copper-nickel alloys. They are commonly used for building up or overlaying cast iron or steel surfaces to provide corrosion resistance.

May 10, 2017 I haven't yet tried aluminum bronze. I proudly show off my first cast iron repair C. 1970 with a BIG welding tip on a cheap oxy/acetylene set. I bought some cast iron filler. Mom had a very ornate wood stove she bought in an antique store for $35.00. Father was beside himself that she wasted her money on a broken stove.

Recommended for the joining and overlay welding of copper-aluminum alloy, aluminum coated steel and cast iron .It has been widely used in shipbuilding, machinery, and the chemical industry. Best for high overlay welding requirement for hardness, resistance to wear, abrasion, and erosion. ISO24373 BS EN14640: CuAl8Ni2Fe2Mn2 CuAl8Ni2
Nov 22, 2021 What is Aluminum Bronze? Aluminum bronze is made up of 6-12% aluminum, replacing the tin traditionally used in other types of bronze. The rest is copper, although other elements such as iron, silicon, or nickel can be added to strengthen certain properties of the metal. This material is best known for its strength and corrosion resistance ...
Dec 05, 2011 Sat Jul 30, 2011 6:37 pm. If the housing is cast steel, then you don't have to worry. It should be an easy weld. But, according to the sparks you said that were coming off of it, it doesn't sound like steel. If it is a cast iron and you weld it like it was steel, you will definitely have problems. I would definitely make sure what it is you are ...

The decrease in heat input has many benefits particularly in the welding of cast iron. This reduces the amount of required pre-heating. As the filler metal bronze is very ductile, tolerate stresses generated during cooling which in the fusion welding of a cast iron may produce the weld or base metal to crack.
